Verna Alice Prough, 89, of La Plata passed away at 11:15 Saturday night (March 5, 1983) in a hospital in Marceline.
The daughter of William and Emma Guthrie Parish, she was born July 8, 1893 in Macon County, Missouri. On April 22, 1914 in Macon County she was married to Amzie Prough who preceded her in death on February 1, 1920. Also preceding her in death were one great-grandson, Steven Louis Prough; one sister, Elisa F. Prough; one brother, Willis Parish and her parents, William and Emma Burthree Parish.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Charles Roy (Opal) Shumaker of Route 4, La Plata, Missouri; two sons, Edwin Prough of La Plata and Olen Prough of La Plata; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Prough resided for many years in Mercyville, Missouri. For a short time she lived in La Plata before entering the Pioneer Health Center in Marceline three years ago.
She was a member of the Winigan Christian Church.
Funeral services were held at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon (March 8, 1983) in the chapel of Foster-Fohn Memorial Home. The Rev. Archie Cooper conducted the services. Music was provided by Mary Weerts, singing, "Amazing Grace" and "Going Down the Valley." She was accompanied by Dianthe Cable, organist. Burial was in the Helton Cemetery.
Casket bearers were: Calvin Allen, Kenny Baker, Steven Prough, Clarence Shott, Nile Wilson and Bill Galaspie.
