Elizabeth (Bess) Shale, 78, of Macon died on Tuesday morning, Dec. 22, 1922, at Loch Haven Nursing Home in Macon.

Services are pending at the Carney Funeral Chapel in Macon. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Clarence.

Mrs. Shale was born Feb. 23, 1914, at Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Bernard and Freda Helmkampf Gockle. She was married to Charles "Brick" Reed Shale.

Survivors include one son, Dr. Rusby Seabaugh of Kalispell, Mont.; one daughter, Saundra Curry of Annapolis, Md.; two step-daughters, Susan Dragich of Glenn Corbin, Ill., and Joan McComas of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and one brother, Capt. B. Norman Gockel of Novata, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband in December 1973.

Mrs. Shale was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church of Macon. She had taught elementary school in Cape Girardeau before moving to Macon.
